Project Criteria:

  1. Theme: “The World Would Be a Better Place If…”
  2. Draw your subject in the focal point area using the Rule of Thirds. Draw a background. Use leading lines and diagonals to fill the space going off all 4 sides of the paper. Choose either the subject or the background to draw your Zentangles.
  3. Quality/Craftsmanship: How neat you draw and color.
  4. At least 5 different patterns.
  5. It’s executed in Sharpie on 12″ x 18” drawing paper
  6. Used different thicknesses of line in different patterns.
  7. No pencil lines apparent.
  8. Each pattern has to fill the entire divided area/no white.

Vocabulary

  • Line: a mark made from point A to point B using a pencil, brush, pen, chisel, or any other art utensil.
  • Pattern: a type of theme of recurring events or objects, sometimes referred to as elements of a set of objects. The elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner.
  • Composition: An image composed of a variety of Elements and Principles of Art arranged in a way that they are unified within the work.
  • Focal Point: The area of the composition that your eye is attracted to first.
  • Rule of Thirds: Lines used to split the composition up into thirds both vertically and horizontally. The main subject or focal point should be aligned with the intersections of those lines.
  • Leading Lines: Lines that guide a viewers’ eyes around the artwork
  • Strong Diagonal: A form of leading line that can transform a boring work into a dynamic one.
  • Fill the Frame: Cropping the edges of your subject to fill the frame and make the view more interesting.
  • Zentangle: miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created from an ensemble of repetitive patterns.They are not only exquisitely beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create.
